In “24 Preludes for a Fugue”, a documentary about Estonian composer Arvo Pärt, Pärt says “Every blade of grass has the status of a flower,” referring to his artistic approach of neutrality - the equal importance of each note.

During my residency at Yatoo, I made video poetry about sound and movement based on this idea. In nature, every sound and every movement have equal value and importance, without the hierarchies often found in our human conception of the world. Every movement creates the possibility of sound, yet sound is possible only when the listener has the ability and intention to hear. It requires effort. This effort is not strenuous but light – almost effortless. Listeners allow themselves to hear the sounds by tuning in to possible sounds created by the movement.
