Since 2022, I have been studying with Japanese musician Tamura Ryo, who is based in Seoul, South Korea. Together, we question the nature of sound and movement in the process of making performance, while also examining cultural dichotomies, such as sound vs. music and movement vs. dance. Our research encompasses the cultural differences between East and West. For three months in 2024, supported by British Columbia Arts Council in Canada, we expanded our study by learning Buddhist drumming together in Seoul. Sound of the Void is one segment of my own study of sound and movement, which was supported by the Canada Council for the Arts.
